Hello Marilyn:

We had the most amazing time at Pender Island and  “Sunset Retreat”.  The weather was exquisite the entire time.  We were thrilled with the house and absolutely were stunned by the views.  We adored the deck and ate most of our meals out there, plus watched the views.  I painted a little, but mostly did photography.  My photos are magnificent, friends and family are so jealous of our trip!

The kitchen had everything we needed and it was so great to have the washer and dryer.  The renovations to the house are wonderful--the floors are gorgeous!  The beds were sooooo comfortable.  We loved the new soaking tub in the downstairs bathroom with the spectacular views! 

Pender Island has much to do with exploring the coves and roads.  I have trouble walking and we had to drive to most of our explorations, but everything was so close and the location of the house is very central...and stunning.  Being up on the cliff brought the ocean quite close...no sand in the way, and it also brought the eagles and orcas right in to where we could practically touch them.  A bald eagle swooped right in front of the deck to greet us when we arrived as a welcome.  We were impressed!

We enjoyed our stay at Sunset Retreat very much and will certainly consider staying there again. We regard it as one of the best accommodations at which we have stayed in 6 years of vacationing on the west coast.

Our second visit to Sunset Retreat was fabulous!  The renovations to the house are fantastic and the tub in the downstairs bathroom is really beautiful!  We did really luck out on the weather to!

Hi Marilyn:

We enjoyed another wonderful vacation at Sunset Retreat!  The renovations are just lovely!  We love the bathrooms--especially the soaker tub in the downstairs bathroom--and the kitchen floor.  Everything was so clean and lovely. 

A resident reptile (stuffed toy) was found in the games room closet and our grandson was ecstatic as he had left it there two years ago I guess, so we brought it home to him.

Thanks for everything, Marilyn.  We hope to be back again next year!

Hi Marilyn:

We arrived home (to Germany) yesterday after very long flights and now we are suffering from jetlag. 

Pender Island seems to be a little paradise from the past and we feel fortunate to have been there for Pender Island's major event, the Fall Fair.  

Unfortunately the whales came by only once but we had a great holiday.  Sitting out on the veranda was relaxing enough for everybody.

Hi Marilyn

We had a wonderful time on Pender Island and the house worked out perfectly.  Brenda was totally excited to see the whales and was very surprised how you could hear them from so far away

Jeffery and I played lots of tennis (we bought a membership for $20) and we all played golf several times.  We even got fresh crab at Hope Bay and cooked it.  It was quite a treat!

Hi Marilyn

We had a great time even though the weather was a bit cool.  Most days it was around 20 C (70 F) so we could still wear shorts.  It was actually a nice change from the heat wave we left and returned to at home in Alberta.

The house was great and everything was fabulous.  We really appreciated the board games, the binoculars, the pool table, the laundry facilities and the great kitchen.  The kitchen was so well equipped and the view is so beautiful that we ate all of our meals at the house.  I was able to make great home cooked meals so we didn't get tired of the restaurant food we ate on the rest of our holiday. 

We enjoyed seeing all of the wildlife.  We saw several deer in the yard and we had bald headed eagles fly past the deck several times.  We saw seals or otters from the deck and of course the whales on two occasions. 

Please let the owners know how much we enjoyed our stay.  It is a great house and the view is just amazing.  We also loved the beds!!

Thanks for everything.  We are already telling all of our friends and families about this great house.  We hope to visit again or possibly try one of your other vacation rental properties (in Mexico).

We are back home now, after a wonderful week on Pender Island and Sunset Retreat.  We had a great time there... the house, the view from the deck, and the location was just fantastic.  The weather was great too, except for a few sprinkles one morning, so we can't complain

Once again, everything was lovely!  The weather was fantastic and we saw whales everyday--lots of them!!

The house was clean and fresh when we walked in.  We bought fresh crab off the boat and improvised by using the roaster to cook it, but a large stockpot would be great--even for spaghetti, otherwise the house is very well appointed and we LOVE IT! 

We would like to book again for next summer as it is our 35th anniversary, so I will get back to you later with the dates.

Thank you for sharing your lovely well-equipped home with us.  The weather was wonderful, the whales came by three times.  Once they were so close you could see them underwater--better view than the whale boats!  The "million dollar" view from the deck provided hours of relaxation. The first morning we were here there were several rainbows over Victoria - good sign for a great week.

We came here for our honeymoon and found everything we were looking for. The house, the wildlife, peace and quiet and the view were perfect! The deer visited us most mornings and we saw the whales several times!! We are grateful for this opportunity and will remember it always

Lovely home, great view. Enjoyed the large pod of whales from the deck Friday evening!  Spent a day on a sailboat charter -- Island Charters from Mayne Island.  Went whale watching with Sound Passages from Port Browning, kayaking, disc golf and just hanging out with the family.  A fun relaxing week!

I have to say on behalf of our entire family, Pender Island, and Sunset Retreat in particular, exceeded our expectations by a very wide margin.  Your retreat is a fabulous escape from the hectic pace of our everyday lives.  In fact, we and our European family visitors found ourselves on many occasions just looking across the balcony to the boats and the scenery in front of us, despite plans to read one of the many books we brought with us.  Life on the island was just the way I like it--not busy at all.  The produce available from the Farmer’s Market was very tasty. The roadsides too provided my wife and I with limitless quantities of sweet blackberries.

I am very impressed with the layout of your home.  The large deck is fabulous and the interior allows us to be together or have privacy depending on what we wish.  The kitchen is very well equipped.

We, and especially the children, were excited by those long-legged deer wandering about the site, munching on dried arbutus leaves.  And yes, on our first full day (Monday) the kids and I saw a huge pod of orcas swim westward. Later we found out that as many as 50 whales were in that particular pod! Amazing creatures.

We have gathered many fine memories during our stay at your home.  I hope that we get an opportunity in the future to repeat what we experienced recently.
